Welcome to Abbotskerswell

First recorded around 1086 in the Domesday Book as the settlement as "Carsewelle,” and noted as having a mill. The village's name evolved over time, eventually becoming Abbotskerswell, possibly due to its connection to an abbey or religious institution and the location of an ancient well. During the medieval period, Abbotskerswell was part of the manor of Ipplepen. At this time the village was primarily agricultural and in engaged in trading with other local settlements. St. Mary's church dating back to the 14th century is a significant historical landmark in Abbotskerswell. More recently light elements of early light industry evolved on the fringes of the village and there a now a number of successful small business located on the outskirts.

The main street of Abbotskerwell has a range of interesting old and newer properties built along it. At the intersection in the centre of the village there is a café. The popular local shop is close by. The village primary school and recreational ground are amongst other well-supported assets of the village. The Court Farm Inn has a reputation for a fine atmosphere and great food, the pub garden is extremely popular in warm weather. If you are lucky, you can find a modest period cottage, family home, retirement bungalow or high-end country residence here. There is something for everyone. We like this village for its convenient location and the range of properties available. Family members of the Coast and Country team lived here for many years, in probably their favourite home.
